First Sergeant James E. Saunders Jr.

Biography

ISG Saunders is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He entered the Marine Corps in August of 1970 following graduation from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He later joined the Army in January of 1975 after completing 2 years in the Marine Corps. His career is highlighted by NCO service and leadership in a series of command and staff positions in Okinawa with the 3rd Marine Division, 75th Infantry (Ranger) Battalion Fort Stewart, Ga, 24th Infantry Division Fort Stewart Georgia, 8th Infantry Division Mainz and Mannheim, Germany, 1st Armored Division Erlangen, Germany and his last assignment was with the State University of New York in Brockport, New York as an ROTC instructor. After retirement in May of 1995 he was hired by the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education as an Army Instructor at Westinghouse High School.

He has been privileged to be the First Sergeant of 3 Mechanized Infantry Companies in Germany, one of which was selected to be part of a Task Force during Operation Desert Storm in August of 1991. ISG Saunders is a graduate of the Basic Non Commissioned Officer Course, Airborne School, Scuba school, Air Assault school, Ranger school, an Honor Graduate of the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course, the Infantry Mortar Platoon Leaders Course, Jungle Expert Course and a Honor Graduate of the First Sergeants Course.
